Project Abstract

A clutch is a device used to make and brake contact from the transmission. When it engages, then power is transferred from engine to gear box and when it disengage, power flow is stop, hence it is called free running of engine. In this paper we are doing automatic clutches in automobile system by using pneumatic systems.

In place of Engine, shaft is directly attached to variance motor and clutch disc as well as pressure plate is used, in between them friction material called “Asbestos” used to grip between the pressure plate and clutch plate. This project shows, experimental analysis of automatic  clutch, and at last at which speed clutch engage as well as disengage is measured and when clutch disengage, at that time speed of flywheel is also measured.


Working principle:

        The battery is connected to the gear lever. Whenever the gear lever is activated battery is turned ON and also solenoid is actuated. Solenoid is connected to the pneumatic cylinder piston. Piston moves downwards, at that time the air is passed to the vacuum cylinder. Then the vacuum cylinder piston moves and also clutch is engaged due to the connection between clutch and vacuum cylinder piston. Then the accelerator pedal is movement is used to turned OFF the battery. So no need to clutch lever is used to engage or disengage the gears.
